Summary "Metadata Object Description Schema (MODS)"

MODS (Metadata Object Description Schema) is an XML schema , based on a subset of MARC, for encoding bibliographic information. Developed by the Library of Congress’ Network Development and MARC Standards Office. It can be used to carry selected data from existing MARC records, or it can guide the creation of new bibliographic records. It uses language-based tags (as opposed to the numeric tags used in MARC), and is expressed in XML. In general, it is simpler and more user-oriented than MARC XML.
